Popular DJs are known for their unique ability to mix music into an art form that makes people get up and dance and enjoy the music. The advancements of light shows has really enhanced the shows that the DJs put on making it not only a audio show, but a visual show as well.

Being able to control the lights and have them enhance the beat of the music has made it easier for the DJs to put on a complete show and really add to the dance experience. Light shows have come a long way in recent years and not only feature movement by changing the brightness of the light along with the beats of the music, but the lights can evoke emotion with the added use of color. DJs are able to put their a personal spin on the music not only by transforming the music itself, but adding to the experience with a light show as well. The lights have become an integral part of the show and DJs rely on them to enhance the music and get people involved by dancing. The light shows really have changed the way that DJs perform for the crowd and have made DJ performances a great experience.

How Deadmau5 changed the house genre is a good question since to many fans he is the definition of ‘music genre’. How Deadmau5 influenced electronic music genre is not as important as the lesson he has for the world in how to take lemons and make them lemonade.

The stage name ‘Deadmau5′, pronounced ‘dead mouse’, belongs to a Canadian music giant by the name of Joel Thomas Zimmerman. As the story goes, Zimmerman literally found a dead mouse in his computer tower while making a hardware switch. At first, his chat-room friends called him ‘Dead Mouse Guy’ which overshot character count limits ultimately being abbreviated to ‘deadmau5′. Having a flare for creativity, Zimmerman’s well-known mouse headgear evolved from experimenting with 3D computer software.

Zimmerman’s creative flare for musical mixology showed up in his first album ‘Get Scraped’ which encompassed multi-genre ranging from IDM (intelligent dance music) to electronic hip hop dubbed ‘Trip Hop’. To many fans, Deadmau5′s title should be ‘Electronic Music Genre King’ with the definition being one whose repertoire includes electronic, dubstep, house, electro and house styles known to switch in a heartbeat. Deadmau5′s worldwide popularity stems from performances on BBC 1 Radio and appearances around the globe. The information party rocks on: Deadmau5 Closes Out Six-Night Run at New York’s Roseland Ballroom

A USB hub is a special device that can greatly expand the number of slots available to you for USB ports on any computer. Generally your computer will only come with a few USB ports available. This is especially the case when it comes to laptop computers, that classically only have around 2 USB ports.

USB ports are needed for just about every device you can think of that attaches to your computer including cameras, external stereos, scanners and a multitude of other devices that you might need in your studio.

If you don’t have a USB hub currently, then you will be severely limited to how many devices you can use at once through your computer system. Adding new USB ports directly to your computer to allow for more musical devices, such as instruments that have USB hookups, but it would be a needless expenditure.

USB hubs are cheap and easy to use. All you have to do is plug the “upstream port” directly into one of your USB ports, and you will get a number of downstream ports equal to the number available on the hub. USB hubs range in extra ports from just a few for the cheaper ones, to many, many ports, that will allow you to outfit every aspect of your studio.

This early November festival has the likes of some of the best electro-punk bands and some unknowns you may be glad you heard of.
Cypress Hill Smokeout: We won’t touch on the name but if you know electronic music you know Cypress Hill.

I know that with all the new technology, finding the best keyboard controller can be difficult. Back in the day, when keyboard controllers were first introduced, people were amazed at the synthesis sounds they were able to make. With new technology out today, such as laptops, Korg Kp3 and so much more, it brings the options through the roof. So what would i recommend? Well first let me tell you what i was using before, i was using the Casio PX800. Now i know what your thinking. Probably something along the line of, “No Way! That thing is way too expensive for me there is no way i could use something like that!” Well my friends rest assure im not here to get to involve yourself with the Casio PX800.Additional information can be found at http://murdr.blogspot.com/2011/07/news-tivoslide-c00240-keyboard-remote.html. Rightfully so, the dad gum thing cost me around a grand to take home. I know we have a budget and i plan to keep it under 300, so the next product i would recommend that will bring you that five star rating for a cheap price is the M-Audio Axiom 61. The sound is phenominal, however i will tell you one thing. This is not a plus for those who are looking for those missing 15 keys. Thats okay it still has a sound that will keep you coming back for more, not to mention that it is extremely light! Do your research and be sure to concider these options!

Ableton Live is becoming a more and more popular software program for people looking to perform their electronic music live. It is a genre that is sweeping the music industry. This is especially true in the jam band scene where many acts that simply use Ableton and a controller are headlining major festivals. You may even be using it yourself.

If you are using it yourself and just using a piano keyboard as a controller you are missing out on some of the great things you can do live. It can become very cumbersome going back and forth to your computer to set which samples you want to use or trigger a new loop in a song. There are other options that you can use as a controller. The best of these options is the APC 40.

The APC 40 is basically a controller with buttons, knobs and faders that simulates the screen on Ableton Live. You can trigger in simple you want on the screen by hitting the corresponding button on the controller. You can also control the volume of tracks and the amount of each effect. The APC 40 will make your live performances become more seamless by allowing you to control everything in a logical way and cutting out some of the work as well.

Professional studio engineers should have the best equipment for clients. Quality matters, poor production could make your studio traffic drop. Of course high-end studio equipment is recommended when running and label, but you can have professional quality from audio interfaces under 200. I’ve seen plenty of studio set ups, most having just a microphone, a cheap preamp and audio interface. Buying any audio interface will not get the job done, one should purchase a name-brand sound card from a company with a good reputation. RME is the leading music dealer. You can find a quick rundown here Their equipment is used by professional engineers and artist around the world. Their prices may be expensive, ranging from 400 – 3000 for an audio interface. M-Audio is another great company to consider. You can find audio interfaces for under 200. They specialize in selling studio microphones, wires, headsets, monitors, preamps and audio interfaces. Below is list of audio interfaces from M-Audio for under 200.

M-Audio Delta 1010LT
Price Rage: 179.00 – 200.00
This may be the best PCI audio interface for under 200. The quality is professional, giving you a clear, sharp and smooth sound, it also adds clarity to your recordings. This audio interface is M-Powered, meaning it’s compatible with Pro Tools. It may be used with other programs such as Cubase or Reasons.

M-Audio Delta 66
Price Range: 189.00 – 200.00

The digital revolution was certainly an amazing boon to electronic musicians everywhere, but seemed to doom one classic music element for a while. The vinyl recordings that had been a mainstay of the music industry for so long seemed to be going the way of the dinosaur soon enough. But hip-hop musicians found, quite rightly, that there are benefits of sampling off of vinyl.

These benefits go beyond the initial scratching techniques that were developed with long playing records, and go deep into recording techniques themselves. There are two reasons that vinyl remains a great choice for sampling. The first has to do with tonal quality. There is warmth and depth to analog recordings that digital has yet to match. For tonal substance, fresh vinyl comes through.

The second advantage of using records is that there are just so many of them. There are recordings available that go back to the dawn of recording times. The wide variety of artists and genres available on vinyl is truly mind-boggling. The digital world has not been around long enough to even come close to the analog output that has gone before it.

So if an electronic musician is looking for unique samples, that are also sonically sound, he or she will do very well by raiding an old record collection. Vinyl is plentiful, can sound incredible, and can be found inexpensively. They can be a source of an expanded musical array.
